Additional Information
TEAM FORMATION FOR PRE-K & 1ST GRADE
Players participating in the Pre-K and 1st Grade Divisions will be coached by members of the Sporting Oklahoma licensed coaching staff, with the assistance of volunteer parents. Players will gather each week for training designed and led by our licensed coaching staff immediately prior to splitting into small-sided groups for round-robin match play.
TEAM FORMATION FOR 2ND GRADE & ABOVE
Players will be placed on teams by the League Director according to age, gender, and one or more of the following:
Geographical location based on elementary school district, then zip code as provided at registration.
Submission of a Team Form, which will require the signature of a volunteer willing to coach the team. Team Forms are not required to meet the minimum roster size as detailed in the Rostering Guidelines; however, additional players may be added to the roster if the submitted Team Form does not meet minimum roster requirements. The SORL Team Form is available for download on our Forms page.
Submission of a Buddy Request at registration through PlayMetrics, which guarantees the placement of two players, requesting one another, onto the same team. Both players must list each other on their respective Buddy Request for placement to be considered.
If a Team Form or Buddy Request includes players from different divisions, then the team or players will be placed in the division of the oldest player on the Team Form or Buddy Request.
VOLUNTEER COACH REGISTRATION & REQUIREMENTS
Sporting Oklahoma Recreational League coaches are volunteers. Typically, these volunteers are the parent or family member of a player on the team. If a team is formed without a volunteer coach, then the League Director will contact the parents of the players assigned to the team in order to find a volunteer coach. If the League Director is unable to find a volunteer coach for the team, then the team may be disbanded, and players may be reassigned to other teams.
No previous experience is necessary, and Sporting Oklahoma will provide each coach with training sessions, administrative support, and hand-on guidance.
All volunteer Head Coaches will receive a discounted registration fee for their player.
Pursuant to the Sporting Oklahoma Risk Management Policy, any coach, or assistant coach, participating in the Recreational Program is subject to a mandatory criminal background screening as detailed in the Sporting Oklahoma Policy & Procedure manual, and must be SafeSport certified.
TEAM TRAINING POLICY
Players participating in the Pre-K and Kindergarten divisions will train only once per week, during the time allotted for training immediately prior to each scheduled competition.
Teams participating in the divisions of 2nd Grade & Above are encouraged to train once per week. Training Sessions may not occur prior to the Sporting Oklahoma Recreational League Coach Meeting or after the completion of the regular season schedule. Teams participating in the Sporting Oklahoma Recreational League are responsible for finding and reserving an appropriate location for training.
PLAYING TIME POLICY
Sporting Oklahoma believes in-game competition plays a major role in the development of its players. Limited opportunities to participate in games may eventually inhibit the ability of a player to develop the necessary technical and tactical skills required to compete at the next level. This policy has been established to assist coaches in determining playing time. Players participating in the Sporting Oklahoma Recreational League should play a number of minutes approximately equal to that of their teammates and, at a minimum, approximately one-half (1/2) of each competition.
FEE STRUCTURE & REFUND POLICY
The SORL is divided into separate fall and spring seasons. Players will pay a one-time registration fee each season, with no further financial obligation to the club. The registration fee does not include the cost of uniforms or accessories required for participation.
Participants may request a refund prior to the date on which Late Registration begins. Any refunds requested after such date may be denied. Any refund or adjustment to registration fees will be determined on a case-by-case basis, and administrative fees may apply.
UNIFORMS
Uniform ordering information will be provided to players after registration is complete.
